Electronic Resources
The OCHS Library Media Center subscribes to a number of electronic resources which are available both at school and via remote access. See one of the library media specialists to obtain the user ids and passwords for remote access.
Encyclopedia

World book is a great general encyclopedia for all ages
· Grolier Encyclopedia – http://go.grolier.com
Grolier consists of 3 encyclopedias at various levels:
* New Book of Knowledge – primary level
* Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia – Middle school level
* Encyclopedia Americana – High School and adult level
Databases

Gale Resources is comprised of 19 different databases containing information on current topics for various age levels. There are several specialized databases as well as a number of general databases. Articles are from periodicals, newspapers, and reference works that date back as far as the 1980’s. Of special note are:
Biography Resource Center – the best source the library has for biographical information
Infotrac Onefile – the most comprehensive of the databases
Gale Virtual Library – includes e-books in several subject areas
Opposing Viewpoints – presents pros and cons on various contemporary issues

E-Library is a huge database of current information. The unique feature is that it includes TV and audio scripts in addition to magazines, newspapers, books, and maps.

Reader’s Guide Full Text Select is a searchable, full-text database of a broad selection of the most popular periodicals (dating back to 1994).

Portaportal is simply a site where the librarian has placed a number of useful links, including those on citing sources.
· Edheads -- http://www.edheads.org/ -- an interactive, online experience for hard-to-reach subjects. Students can design a cell phone and market it; study the brain and perform surgery; investigate a crime scene; study simple and compound machines; understand the weather; and see acual pictures of knee and hip replacement as well as perform the surgery.
